The Road in Me
For 5 weeks between March and April of 2008, I traveled across the country in my car. What is contained in this website are the thoughts I recorded and images I snapped during that time.
The original idea was to use the photos for my portfolio and for some type of book. As of now, it looks like some shots will be used for my portfolio, and the book idea might have been a little too ambitious.
Priceless
In Washington the pine trees are thin and tucked together so tight that if you threw a handful of sand into a patch of them, not one grain of sand would hit the ground without first making contact with one.
In South Dakota the clouds hang like they’re on hooks. They dangle and it feels as if you can touch them like toys that hang over an infant’s crib.
In Texas the trains crawl off in the distance of the freeway and if it weren’t for the bright colors of the engine car, you could mistake them for a band of sedimentary stone in the hills and mountains.
Where Do We Go from Here?
I have finished my journey and I’m back in Charleston.
It feels good to be home.
I have lots of photos to work on still and I will be publishing those here along with stories as I reflect on my time on the road.
When that runs out I will return to non-travel related writing.
Maybe I’ll tackle an East coast trip in a bit. Who knows.

More
I want my photos to evoke emotion when looked at. I want the emotion to be equivalent in magnitude to when someone hears a great song or sees a dramatic movie.
In order to accomplish this it is inevitable that I will start taking pictures of people.
It’s a very natural transition.
Like walking down a hallway in your house with your eyes closed and your arms outstretched and your hands on the wall.
You know what I’m talking about.
